switching sides
…
As far as I can recall, it was in one of senior faculty member’s room (who happened to be a very good and close friend of You-Know-Who) that Farid surprised me by disclosing something to him that was strictly between me and Farid. He unveiled our plan of “switching sides” by saying:
“…we have been playing from your side till now, and from now onwards we’ll be playing from theirs”.
The jargon came as a bombshell to the faculty member, who had no idea what had been cooking behind the scene. At the end of our meeting, while we were escorting him to his car he said:
“…regarding the switching sides thing you mentioned; you should know one thing about the people in the Head Office. They play with us (Faculty) like we play with students. They would never let you do what you want. Rather you would be doing something they want.”
But Farid and I were long convinced that it was highly important for the future of the Alumni Association that we change the impression of the guys in the Head Office about the Old Students Association of FAST (OSAF) to the fact that this Alumni Association was NOT the creation of Lahore Faculty, in order to create a pressure group against them. But in reality I was convinced from within that the guys in the Head Office were right.
At that very moment in time I told Farid that he had made a blunder. Later, when we finally decided to part away from OSAF, it was my biased retrospective evaluation that “save-the-baby plan worked out for the Father”.
